Demise of Kaiser Friedrich III by JanBoruta Demise of Kaiser Friedrich III by JanBoruta
May, 1915. As the Great War rages on, both the Germans and the Russians on the eastern front fight both on land and in the air. German giant steam-powered zeppelins were used as bombers and floating fortresses, capable of aiding the land forces with their powerful armament, cannons and howitzers. After suffering heavy losses in Galicia, the Russians sent their airplanes to counter the Prussian threat...

Quite a quick drawing, as my list of unfinished ones reached an astounding number of 25.

Tom.

Grim, has a real flavor of the horror of it all. Look up caloric engines, or Stirling engines as they're called--and imagine their heat being used to produce hot air for the balloonets. With Helium starting to run out, hot air zeppelins may be in our future!

Perspective on the planes seems a bit screwy, since my first thought when looking at them was that they were all flying outside the picture.

Also, as a minor personal foible, you didn't put in an Ilya Murometz somewhere. >.<

is this real or fiction?

Either way, it's still good! belivable enough.

As i always say, the best part about drawing explosions is that they make a large part of the papaer very easy to draw!

Would have been a great battle! But an hidrogen Zeppelin was not a clever idea as a air fortress, the damage control it's less than nothing!

This illustration it's the one i like the best fom the new. Great designs!

O_O Amazing! I love burning airships, and you've really captured the way the skin curls up as it burns off. Cool planes too!

Incredible O____O
You work out the details really well with those pencil strokes, The different shades of grey for the clouds is very effective for bringing the airplane out of the picture real nice :)
Quite dramatic!

Even if it's unfinished, it looks amazing.

I assume they're still using hydrogen gasbags?

Czy mocno się pomylę, jeśli powiem, że wspomagałeś się ujęciami płonącego "Hindenburga" przy realizacji tego rysunku? Kąt bardzo podobny do tego, co czasem widzę w publikacjach na temat katastrofy.

You have a whole series of such drawings planned? I'd really like to read this alternate history somewhere and really inspires me to start to flesh out mine more. It's been in the planning stages for too long.

I create the story in a quite ad-hoc way... I don't plan an alternative history of WWI, I just throw ideas into real battlefields, without altering the real timeframe. I hope I'll do more steampunk and dieselpunk drawings. I plan on drawing some alternative Franco-Prussian War of 1870...
