Lafayette, We're Here by JanBoruta Lafayette, We're Here by JanBoruta
1917 AD. The Americans join the war against the Central Powers and send the first troops to Europe. In the vanguard there's General John Pershing with a few full divisions of doughboys and a contingent of Mark 9 Liberty heavy tanks. They'll be off to the frontline withing a few days, fighting for their new allies and Lady Liberty.

This piece was started in 2011, and I worked on it from time to time until 2013. Unfinished, but it's in a state good enough not to land in the scraps.

Pencil, A4 paper (cropped).

I'm going to go after a close friend of mine to send you a poem about the Americans using steam tanks in Cuba during the Spanish-American war.  I think you'd enjoy it as much as he and I will enjoy this.

I love the world you're creating. Great art, great uniforms. Lots of airships <3

Thank you :) Although I don't delve into alternate history - I just saturate real events with extra and improbable technology. All events that really happened are untouched - sometimes it makes me think that adding all this cool stuff is pointless if it doesn't change history in the slightest. But ultimately, I just do it because I enjoy it.

If there was a point of divergence in "my" world, it probably would be in the interwar period or even during the cold war. Perhaps I'd keep the Habsburgs in power (albeit limited to post-war Austria), and keep the Russian monarchy around, but in a prolonged civil war. I've yet to come up with something.

Damn son, it's fucking beautiful!

That tank looks like a fantastic target for artillery though.  Nice and big and slow.

Except even bigger if that crew is an indicator, and also steam powered.  At least the explosion will look cool though.

Of course it will look cool. In steampunk everything must be ridiculously big. : V
