Postcard from Tsushima by JanBoruta Postcard from Tsushima by JanBoruta
A view from the naval battle of Tsushima, which took place on May 27th 1905. I wanted to portray one of my favourite battleship classes, the Russian Borodino/Knyaz Suvorov. I drew completely from memory, so there are mistakes (lack of some features on masts, which are more French than Russian, and lack of tiny sponsons on the prow). I pray for your forgiveness, because I wanted to capture a certain feeling and composition. :)

2B-6B pencils on A5 size paper.

Regards,
Tom

It was so bad battle for Russian Empire. Sadly...

If it was a Japanese postcard the ship should be sinking. Good drawing though.

EAT SUSHI. FROM MIKASA WITH LOVE *bang*

Great image! Maybe some details might not be right, but the feeling you've captured is really great!
I have to google this Battleship! I love battleships myself :D

The Borodino class was great-looking, but its performance was mediocre at best. They were cumbersome, heavy beasts, and were bested by faster Japanese ships.

Thanks for the comment, I'm really glad you like it :) I think I should get back to drawing more. :)

It's so interesting that speed always seems to beat superior firepower and armour... the best examples are aircraft carriers. Much uncooler than battleships, but the planes are so vulnerable... and FAST. That makes them so strong.
Has any nation ever sunken an aircraft carrier? Not as far as I know, but I'm not sure about that.

Carriers were lost en masse at the Battle of Midway... sank by airplanes that started from carriers. When the Japanese carriers were gone, their pilots had nowhere to land and so they were forced to crash into sea and then be retrieved by fellow sailors on rescue boats and launches.

Thank you. :) but there are those small mistakes I cannot forgive myself and I'm not keen on correcting them, as I'm afraid of destroying the already well-drawn details. :(

Me too, they just look so well and unique among the other "ordinary" battleships of the time.

Thank you :) I always felt sad for the Russian Baltic Fleet there. Tired of long journey, with older weapons and somewhat worse tactics. They didn't stand a chance, but they still fought.

Yes I sheer agree with you.
Their braveness and discipline was incredible.
They fought though no having any possibility to win, knowing they were ending up to die.
