Description

Austro-Hungarian navy saw little development on the seas, but their conquest of aerospace was more successful. Often innovative, Austrian airmen and engineers were setting world records across the board. Like the portrayed gunboat "Lissa", named after the site of the great victory of the Admiral Tegetthoff over the Italian fleet in 1866. This gunboat of Salzburg-class set a speed record in 1883, flying from Vienna to Presburg at a speed of over 120 km/h, keeping up and overtaking the accompanying steam train on the ground. The "Lissa" became a favourite at World Fairs and various exhibitions, and performed various tours and visits across Europe. Phased out in 1890, it is housed in a military museum outside Vienna.

I like this design of a flying-ship, though it still has a fantastical element, it’s clearly zeppelin- like making it far more believable than the standard airships of steampunk & dieselpunk.
