Bleriot 360 Heavy Escort

Description

Designed early enough to see prototype flight during the Great War, produced too late to enter combat. Bleriot's series-360 bombers were a unique design of a semi-metal, single-engine, single low wing aircraft, whose purpose was long-range strategic and tactical bombardment. First examples entered service in mid-1919, and continued to be used by the French Air Force until at least 1930. However, rapid development of aircraft design left the 360 series behind, and the remaining planes were repurposed as heavy escort craft. Enclosed in the glass canopy is a rapid-fire 20mm Hotchkiss heavy machine gun, added in 1924.
