Le Vengeur Corvette

Built in 1881, this light armoured corvette was built exactly a decade after the humiliating defeat in the Franco-Prussian war. Hence its name - The Avenger. This class of corvettes was very quickly obsolete though. Stationary turrets and a single gun deck, albeit chock-full of small-calibre cannons, proved insufficient in a rapidly changing airspace. Still, it was preserved as a reminder of French resurgence after the disaster of 1871, and was a frequent guest of military parades on the 14th of July each year.
